FTP

This page is for the benefit of existing clients, and is intended as a refresher for the training that we provide clients with. This is not a complete tutorial.

If you have lost your programme download a new copy by clicking  this folder

You have edited your page, honed your pro's and are ready to go online. You need an ftp programme to help move your files back and forward.  WS_ftp is as good an option as any and is free for non business use.

 

Find the programme icon and double click it to start the application...

Make sure that the relevant area's are filled in with the right information...

PROFILE NAME :- just for you: this can be anything, it is there just to help you find your settings.

HOST NAME:- supplied by your service provider. If not just look at your providers help pages for the right address.

Host Type :- Automatic detect, unless your provider specifies differently.

User ID :- same as dial up account ID.

Password :- same as dial up password.

Once filled in click OK...

Then click connect on the dial up panel that opens...

The left side represents your machine. The right side is your providers space allocated to your account.

You will know when the connection is made! the remote system box fills with the directory info held in your area on your providers system.

ftp6.jpg (5883 bytes)Highlight the file that you wand to send, then click this button to transfer the file to your web site space.

There are two settings for file type :-

ASCII for text files ( htm or html )

BINARY  for all other types (.gif , .jpg , .wav, .mid etc...)

Lastly use your web browser to check that your page has indeed gone online and is visible to the whole internet. If you can see the page everybody can see it. Shut down the Ftp programme and start work on your next upgrade.
